Many locals gathered at Victorian Plaza to see the 37th annual Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade.

For some people this year was their first time; but for others, this parade has become a holiday tradition.

"It kicks it off for us - this is our first activity of the Christmas season, but we are big Christmas people. We look forward to all the Christmas activities," said Amanda Arizmendi.

Before today's parade, people had the chance to meet Santa, grab hot chocolate, and even ride the train around Victorian Plaza.

Once it kicked off, everyone began lining up against the fences to check out their favorite floats and grab some candy.

There were marching bands, first responders, community members and more.

Everyone was able to get a good look at the action, and there were even some familiar faces from 2 News Nevada handing out candy canes.

This year's theme was "Cowboy Christmas", and many people took part.

There were floats, people, trucks, and even dogs taking part in the theme.

One woman we spoke with, who has been attending this event for years, says it just keeps getting better, and that it holds a special place in her heart.

"It's that hometown feel, bringing the kids, enjoying Christmas, making new friends and welcoming new people - it is just a great time to celebrate the Christmas holiday and enjoy being together," said Sandra Gard.

Although the event is over, people say they will continue to enjoy the lights in Victorian Plaza, and that they are already looking forward to the parade next year.
