A man is in custody after allegedly making bomb threats near St. Mary’s Hospital Wednesday afternoon, prompting a swift police response and temporary road closures.

Reno Police say several calls began coming in around 4:13 p.m. reporting a man near Virginia and 6th Streets yelling that he had a bomb and was threatening to use it against St. Mary's Hospital.

Officers arrived quickly, closed both Virginia and 6th Streets.

The Consolidated Bomb Squad was called to respond, a backpack the suspect was carrying was inspected by bomb squad officers but was found to contain no explosives.

The man, identified as 58-year-old Ray Carr, who was reportedly uncooperative during the arrest was booked on charges of making a bomb threat and resisting arrest.

Roads in the area, which were closed during the investigation, have since reopened.

No injuries were reported.
