A man has been found guilty of attacking his elderly mother inside her home on New Year’s Day.
A jury convicted 35-year-old Sean Looney of domestic battery by strangulation of an older person and domestic battery of an older person.
The charges stem from an incident in which Looney beat and strangled his 66-year-old mother after she let him into her house.
According to the Reno Police, officers responded to a call from a neighbor who reported a woman being beaten.
When officers arrived, they found Looney lying in the front yard and took him into custody. Police then made contact with the victim, who had visible injuries to her face, neck, and chest.
Investigators determined the woman had been sleeping when her son knocked on the front door. After she let him in, he began to physically assault her. She was eventually able to escape and run to a neighbor’s house, where 911 was called.
At trial, the State was represented by Deputy District Attorney Thomas Sertic.
Sentencing for Looney is scheduled for October 20 before the Honorable Tammy Riggs.
