A man has been convicted of grand larceny after he and a partner stole non-lethal firearms from Scheels in Sparks on multiple occasions.

Anthony Whitmer and an alleged partner stole the weapons, which included pepper ball guns, and resold them on the street, according to a release from the Washoe County District Attorney's Office.

In December of 2025, Scheels staff contacted Sparks Police to report that Whitmer was at the store and was in the process of stealing again, and he was subsequently arrested.

He is set for sentencing on June 8 and faces up to 20 years in prison.

The deputy district attorney will be seeking habitual criminal adjudication.
