A man has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison after being convicted on drug trafficking charges.

Jose Ramirez was arrested in October of 2025, according to a release from the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office.

He was stopped for speeding on Halloween of 2025 on I-80 near Gold Ranch, and a police K9 alerted officers to the presence of drugs.

A search of the vehicle revealed 1,014 grams of heroin, which equates to 5,070 individual doses. Additional searches both of Ramirez himself and his home uncovered more than 18 grams of methamphetamine.

Detectives estimated the total street value for the heroin at $132,602 and the total street value of the methamphetamine at almost $500.

Before the arrest, officers had conducted three separate controlled drug buys from Ramirez between September and October of 2025.

Ramirez was sentenced to 20 years in prison with parole eligibility after eight years.
