The skies above the Carson Valley roar to life once again for The Minden-Tahoe SkyFest.
Fans were treated to performances from a dozen teams, including the U.S. Army Golden Knights and the Patriots Jet Team.
Thousands of people packed the Minden-Tahoe airport on Saturday, including Dayton resident and future pilot Tanner Logan.
“Probably five weeks that I’ve been working toward it,” Logan says, talking about his private pilot license. “I took my first discovery flight about a month ago and just loved it."
His grandfather flew in the military, and Logan says he's inspired to live up to that legacy. He's 20 hours into his private pilot license, with a minimum of 20 more to go. He says his first passengers will be the ones already around him.
“For now, at least, flying my family, helping them out and visiting these beautiful places like Tahoe here, Minden,” he says.
While many eyes were on the skies - and rightfully so - the static displays deserve some attention as well, from a SW-51 Mustang to an F-16 that came over from TOPGUN in Fallon.
Junebug Sovay is celebrating her birthday with friends by coming to Minden to see those planes and more.
“I live in Delaware,” she says. “I came all the way out here to do this air show with Danny and Mary, and I have a private pilot's license. I worked for an airline."
Sovay was born in Elko, Nevada, and worked 15 years in Las Vegas flying for a small flight school. She says she spent decades working as a stewardess for an airline. She got her start with small planes like the Piper Tomahawk.
“It's got an engine and a rubber band that keeps your prop going,” she says.
From experienced pilots to those just getting started, the Minden-Tahoe SkyFest brings something for everyone.
The festivities continue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 18. Tickets and more information can be found on the official website.
2 News Nevada also got the chance to go behind-the-scenes with the Army Golden Knights for their performance on Saturday. That video is attached below:
Alin Beane was able to go up with the Golden Knights to see their performance from the air.
