The Nevada Board of Regents is considering fee increases for Nevada schools for out-of-state students.

It would amount to an increase of 12 percent over three years, starting next year and continuing until 2028, for four-year schools, as well as upper-division two-year institutions.

The increase for lower division two-year schools would be 9 percent in total.

The proposal was met with pushback from students and regent members, advocating on the side of the students to fight rising costs.

The Nevada System of Higher Education's Chief Financial Officer says the rate increase is needed because of funding set to expire in 2027.

The board will hold the vote on the issue next month.
