Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division, escorted a massive transformer along highways in Northern Nevada on Tuesday, moving it from Hazen to the I-80 Nightingale exit.

The transformer, described as a “Super Load,” weighed approximately 909,489 pounds, measured about 20 feet wide, 20 feet 3 inches tall, and stretched 250 feet in length. It traveled at roughly 12 miles per hour, with its route affecting US 50 Alternate between Hazen and Fernley, US 95 Alternate in Fernley, and I-80 between Fernley and Lovelock.

Because of the load’s size, the transporter traveled eastbound on I-80 past the Nightingale exit before turning around to approach the exit from the westbound side. The movement began around 6:30 a.m. and caused expected travel delays for motorists in the area.

By 11:40 a.m., authorities announced the operation was complete and the highways had reopened. “We are all done, and the highway is open! The ‘Super Load’ has been escorted off the highway. Thank you for everyone’s patience as we assisted in moving this massive transformer from Hazen, Nevada, to the I-80 Nightingale exit,” the Nevada State Police wrote on their Facebook page.
