National Blood Donation Day

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo has joined governors nationwide in proclaiming September 4 as Blood Donation Day in support of National Blood Donation Week, which runs September 1–7.

The proclamation comes in response to requests from Vitalant, syndicated radio host Dr. Daliah Wachs, and blood banks working to address ongoing blood shortages. What began in Nevada in 2015 has grown into a nationwide effort, and this year marks the 10th anniversary of Nevada Blood Donation Day.

Drives are being held across the country, and here in Northern Nevada, Vitalant is where residents can give blood. A growing list of governor proclamations for National Blood Donation Day and Week is available online.

Dr. Wachs, who helped launch the campaign, said, “National Blood Donation Week unites states across the U.S. to support their local blood banks and their tireless effort to keep blood supply stocked.”

Dr. Wachs will be donating at Vitalant’s West Charleston Center tomorrow at noon and encourages others to see how easy and painless it is to donate in their community.
