Nevada Meat and Poultry processing and inspection

The Nevada Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications for the Nevada State Meat and Poultry Inspection Program, a move that allows eligible establishments to process and sell meat within the state.

“Nevada’s livestock industry plays a vital role in the state’s agricultural landscape, primarily made up of family-owned and mid-sized operations across rural Nevada,” said NDA Director J.J. Goicoechea. “The Nevada State Meat and Poultry Inspection Program will offer new opportunities to these producers, improve Nevada’s supply chain, and increase access to truly locally grown and raised food in the state.”

The program is approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and ensures that all meat and poultry products meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

NDA inspectors must be present during slaughter and processing to verify humane treatment of animals, conduct inspections, and ensure facilities comply with sanitation and recordkeeping rules.

The program aims to expand local processing capacity, support Nevada’s agricultural economy, and increase access to safe, locally produced food.

Facilities seeking a permit must submit an application to the NDA at MeatInspection@agri.nv.gov.

Application fees include $500 for a permit, renewed annually by December 31, and a one-time $750 fee for facility plan review, unless the facility is renovated or modified.

Applicants are encouraged to submit all required documents with the application to avoid delays.

Depending on the scope of operations, additional documentation may include state and county business licenses, water system approval, approved sewage removal, USDA exemptions, and county zoning approval.

The NDA will host virtual office hours to assist applicants on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. PST via Microsoft Teams.  Interested parties can register through the department’s website.
