The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) released its May 2025 economic report, showing the state’s unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 5.5 percent.

The labor force grew by 3,484 people during the month.

The total number of nonfarm jobs in Nevada reached 1,580,400, reflecting an increase of 500 jobs since April and a year-over-year increase of 0.6 percent.

Seasonally adjusted data for the state’s Metropolitan Statistical Areas show:

  • Reno saw a rise of 200 jobs, or 0.1 percent, from April, and 3,800 jobs, or 1.4 percent, from May 2024.
  • Carson City reported no job change since April, but an increase of 600 jobs, or 1.9 percent, from the previous year.
  • Las Vegas added 600 jobs, a 0.1 percent increase since April, and 2,100 jobs, or 0.2 percent, compared to May 2024.

“In May we continued to see modest improvements in Nevada’s labor markets, with ongoing employment growth and further declines in the unemployment rate. Further, Nevada’s labor force participation rate increased to 63.0 percent, higher than the national average of 62.4 percent. Wage gains continued with hourly wages up 6.8 percent and weekly wages up 7.5 percent over the last year,” said David Schmidt, Chief Economist.
