It's lax to the max up in Tahoe, where the annual Lake Tahoe Lacrosse Tournament started today. Men’s league teams from all over the west coast come out for it. The tournament is hosted by High Sierra Lacrosse, as a fundraiser for its Foundation. The High Sierra Lacrosse Foundation awards grants, scholarships, and interest free loans to local youth teams, all in the name of growing the sport.

“In about 2010, it became a fundraiser for the High Sierra Lacrosse Foundation. And at that time we had 16 teams. And now, last year we had 40. So, the foundation has contributed over almost $800,000 to grow the sport of lacrosse,” said Curt Wegener, the Tournament Director, and a play for the Tahoe Dawgs Super Masters.

Part of the draw for visiting teams is how much it helps out the community, but it's also an opportunity for men out of high school and college to continue playing the sport they love in the beautiful Lake Tahoe area. Many teams have been a part of the tournament for a decade or more.

“This is our 15th year. We've really generally, like, put this together as a group effort to keep the boys still playing after college. It's something that we look forward to every year. We've always made a big deal about coming,” said Turner Kueger, a player for Team Vegas.

“Tahoe is obviously a premier destination, and it attracts a lot of young talent. But at the same time keeps the old guys coming back and you see the generations move,” said Wyatt Miller, a player for the Gamecocks.

Games end Thursday night around 6:00 p.m. and pick up again Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. The tournament ends on Sunday afternoon. To view the schedule click here.
