Open burning permits within the North Lyon Fire Protection District have been suspended for the remainder of the 2026 burning season.

North Lyon Fire says it's because of the increasing fire danger and seasonal conditions in the area.

Agricultural burning may be subject to separate requirements and approvals.

North Lyon Fire posted on Facebook:

"As temperatures rise and fuels continue to dry out across our region, the risk of accidental wildfire starts increases significantly. Suspending open burning is an important step in helping protect our community, firefighters, and the natural resources that make Northern Nevada such a special place.

We appreciate the cooperation of our residents and businesses in helping reduce the potential for human-caused wildfires. Please remember that outdoor activities involving heat, sparks, or open flames should always be conducted with caution."
