If you often drive to the Palisades Tahoe Ski Resort, you might notice that one of their common challenges is people getting stuck in backed up traffic. One of the main reasons is due to their parking lots quickly filling up. Palisades considered multiple methods but ultimately came down to one solution so far, and that is parking reservations.
"For the 23-24 season we do have a reservation base parking system here at Palisades Tahoe, but there's a combination of free and paid parking spots and that's going to take place only on weekends and holiday periods," said Patrick Lacey, the Public Relations Manager for Palisades Tahoe Ski Resort.
You can make a free reservation every Tuesday at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. for the upcoming weekend. However, if you'd like to reserve a spot farther in advance then you can do so for $30 per spot.
"There's a whole community up here that we really want to focus on and make it easier for them as well as our guests' experience. That way people can show up at 9, 10, even 11 o clock, that way we can spread it out a little bit more and make it easier on the guest," Lacey added.
He said they didn't want to sell fewer passes and they didn't want to increase the price of passes as it's not the amount of people coming up that's the issue, it's the number of vehicles.
"So this parking program really helps to kind of control the flow of traffic coming into the resort. People are coming from the bay area, waking up at 4 a.m. to get to the resort and that's going to be earlier and earlier and earlier if we do not do something,"Â Lacey told us.
Palisades Tahoe said their new parking requirements help spread out the visitation throughout the day and prevent hundreds of cars clogging up the highway while waiting for a parking spot to open up.
Lacey told us there are other ways people can travel such as carpooling and using their public transportation. However, if none of those are options for you and you haven't made a parking reservation, they ask to reschedule your visit.
"What our crew will do is that they'll scan the license plates to see if you do have a reservation or not. Once again, if you don't have a reservation or you can't find public transit to get here a different way, we ask you to not come," he said.
Once again, these reservations are only required for weekends and holidays. To learn more and start reserving your spot in the parking lot you can visit the link by clicking here.
