We've been seeing several crashes happening in our area this week. Three of them happened just on Thursday morning.
The first two crashes happened near the same spot within a short period of time.
Sergeant Chris Brown says the first crash involved multiple cars on South Virginia Street and South Hills Boulevard just before 7 a.m.
State troopers tell us a pickup truck turning from South Hills onto Virginia failed to yield to oncoming traffic and hit a sedan. The impact forced the sedan into the opposite travel lane, hitting another car.
Sergeant Brown says three people were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
Shortly after that, a second crash happened in that same area along South Virginia. AÂ Nissan rear-ended a pickup truck which then rear-ended a Corolla. The driver of the Nissan only had minor injuries.
The cause of this crash is still under investigation, but Sergeant Brown wants to remind everyone to avoid any distractions and stay vigilant on the road.
"Remember, whenever we hit the road it's not just our lives that are on the line, it's every other driver's life that you're taking into your hands," he said.
Another crash happened just before 7:30 a.m. near Debbie Smith Elementary along Sutro Street.
The Washoe County School District tells us a car rear-ended a school bus full of students. Luckily there were no injuries and families have been notified.
This happened just a couple days after a child was hit by a car walking in a crosswalk to O'Brien Middle School.
Robbie Pape, Safe Routes coordinator of Washoe County School District, says, "It was just driver inattention pretty much. We just want to be mindful that our schools are back in session and tell drivers to stay with the speed limit, watch for crosswalks, and watch for student travel."
