The Storey County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) has shared information regarding an investigation into potential animal abuse.

According to a recent Facebook post from SCSO, on July 4 deputies fielded a report of possible animal abuse happening at a remote property in Storey County.

When deputies arrived at the property, they saw 18 horses and burros who looked to be in poor health.

An investigation has been opened, and the property owner contacted.

SCSO says that they are working with the property owner, the Department of Agriculture and local horse advocacy groups to provide support.

When deputies were on the scene, they say the horses and burros were provided food and water. Arrangements are being made to have the animals checked out, with some of them going into facilities for vet care and potential future adoption.

The investigation is ongoing.
