Reno Aces Pitcher Casey Kelly visited several patients at the Renown Children's Hospital on Friday.
Kelly says it was a heartwarming experience for him.
"To be able to see some kids and lift their spirits up, it's obviously more of a humbling experience for me to come in here," he said. "You know, I think they make more of an impact on my life than I think I do on theirs."
Kelly sat with the patients, getting to know them through casual conversations, talking about their favorite sports teams, favorite hobbies, and answering any questions the kids had for him.
"A hospital room gets a little small, so you just try to keep their mind off of the situation and have some fun with them, tell some jokes, and I think mostly I've just told them that I'm old and they all think that that's pretty funny," Kelly laughed.
He signed autographs, each with a special message, took pictures with the children, and left them with what he hopes will be a cherished moment for everyone.
Aces players visit the Children's Hospital as a part of the Reno Aces Foundation.
The foundation is a nonprofit organization aimed at providing services and opportunities to help children and support underserved communities.
Kelly says, "You know everybody comes out to our games and supports us, so it's nice to be able to get out in the community and support the community like they support us."
