The Reno City Council is moving forward with a proposed ordinance that would allow for Accessory Dwelling Units on properties.
ADU's are units you can build in the same lot as homes, but they are currently not allowed in most areas of the city.
The new text amendment would allow for ADU's with certain restrictions, without affecting zoning maps.
Council asked staff move forward with writing a draft ordinance that will be presented to Neighborhood Advisory Boards in early next year.
It's the first step in a 6–12-month public process, which will include community input on things like size, location, height, size of lot and parking.
