7:55 P.M. UPDATE:

Reno Police are saying speed and reckless driving by a motorcyclist appear to be factors in a crash that took the motorcyclist's life on Thursday afternoon.

The identity of the person who died is being withheld pending the notification of their next of kin, RPD said in a release.

The Reno Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team is handling the investigation.

Reno Police have reopened South Virginia Street following a fatal motorcycle crash on Thursday afternoon.

They announced the road was reopened on X.

Reno Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle in South Reno on Thursday. 

Police say officers received a call regarding a crash involving a motorcycle down on S. Virginia Street near Plumb Lane just after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. 

They say the rider of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the car involved remained on the scene of the crash and is cooperating during the investigation.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation. It is unknown if speed or impairment are factors, as the cause of the crash is still under investigation. 

Reno Police advises drivers to avoid the area if possible, especially during rush hour, as S. Virginia Street is closed just south of Plumb Lane, northbound S. Virginia Street is down to one lane, and Hillcrest Drive eastbound at S. Virginia Street is closed.

Roadways are expected to be closed for several hours with no estimation as to when they will reopen.
