The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is expecting a busy Fourth of July holiday and is encouraging passengers to plan ahead.

RNO expects between 16,000-19,000 passengers to arrive and depart per day, with peak travel days being Thursday, July 2; Friday, July 3; Sunday, July 5 and Monday, July 6.

Compared to 2025’s Independence Day travel period, RNO anticipates a 5% increase in departing passengers for 2026, a growth attributed to strong passenger demand and airlines adding more than 40,000 new seats throughout the current season.

Tips for departing passengers

Airport officials are encouraging travelers to plan ahead and allow extra time to get to the airport, helping to ensure a smoother start to the holiday.

  • Arrive early: Get to the airport at least two hours before the scheduled departure time to allow time for check-in, parking and security screening.
  • Getting to the airport: Be aware of construction in and around the airport. Go slow and watch for lane closures and new traffic patterns.
  • Parking at the airport: Parking availability is expected to be limited around Independence Day.
    • Catch a ride from a friend, family member or other mode of transportation.
    • Reserve parking in advance at RenoAirport.com/parking
    • Prepare to be directed to an overflow lot, which will require extra time to park and walk to the terminal.
  • Check with the airline for the most up to date information about flight departure times.
