NNPH Flu Season update

Northern Nevada Public Health is reporting increased respiratory illnesses in Washoe County.

In a release of data from February 9th through the 15th NNPH is reporting two additional flu-related deaths, bringing the total number of flu-related deaths this season to 19. Two deaths were people under the age of 24.

There were 38 hospitalizations from the flu between the 9th and 15th, and 187 RSV cases reported in the county.

Those considered to be at a higher risk of serious complications from respiratory disease include young children, older adults, pregnant women, and anyone with a chronic health condition.

Healthy people can experience severe complications as well.

People are advised to stay home from work or school if sick and wash hands with soap for 20 seconds.
