Operation Turkey Drop Reno

The Salvation Army of Northern Nevada is bringing back its 'Operation Turkey Drop' protein drive next week, aiming to provide holiday meals for families in need.

In Washoe County last year, the organization distributed 1,500 complete holiday meals, including a turkey and all the fixings, while several hundred additional meals were given out in Carson City.

This year, the program revives its partnership with Corwin Ford, which will host a drop-off at its South Virginia Street location in Reno on November 17.

Longtime partner Max Casino will host the event in Carson City on November 20 and 21.

Additional drop-off locations in Reno will include the west parking lot of the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa and The Salvation Army Reno Corps.

Drop-off details:

November 17, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • Corwin Ford, 11111 S. Virginia St., Reno
  • Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, 3800 S. Virginia St., Reno
  • Salvation Army Reno Corps, 1931 Sutro Street

November 20-21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • Max Casino, 900 S. Carson St., Carson City

People can donate frozen turkeys, chickens, hams, roast beef, other proteins, and shelf-stable sides.

“We are so pleased that Washoe County Search and Rescue will be joining us to collect the proteins during the event in Reno,” said Major Randy Hartt, Northern Nevada coordinator for The Salvation Army. “Search and Rescue is one of our longest-running partners for this event. They’ve been standing beside us for Operation Turkey Drop for many years, and we are grateful to them and to the generous community members who donate holiday proteins to feed their neighbors in need.”
