On Thursday Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen went to the Senate floor to push passage of her Truckee Meadows Public Lands Management Act by unanimous consent.
However, her efforts were blocked by a Republican Senator.
The legislation advanced out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee last month.
85% of Nevada is made up of federal land.
Rosen says the bill would allow the state more flexibility to use land and build more affordable housing, schools, parks, churches, fire stations, and police departments.
After failing today the bill will need to be reintroduced in the next session of Congress before reaching a possible vote.
