Flooding along the South Yuba River near Cisco Grove forced one home to be evacuated on Monday, and officials say the area remains under an evacuation warning as more storms are expected this week.
According to Placer County Sheriff's Office in an online post, deputies have been closely monitoring river levels since the flooding began.
On Monday, water was about eight feet below a bridge deputies use as a reference point, prompting the evacuation and a warning for homes along the river between Donner Pass Road and Cisco Road. Hampshire Rocks Road was closed between Cisco Road and Donner Pass Road.
By Tuesday morning, December 23, river levels had dropped. Deputies said water has receded away from the evacuated home, with the distance from the reference bridge increasing to roughly 15 feet.
While the change is encouraging, officials caution that more rain and snow are expected from Tuesday evening through Friday, so the evacuation warning remains in effect. A map of the evacuation area is available online.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for much of Placer County as a new storm system moves in, with rain expected through 4:00 p.m. Friday and the potential for damaging winds.
A High Wind Warning goes into effect Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. through 4:00 p.m. Christmas Day, with south winds of 25–35 mph and gusts up to 60 mph expected.
A Winter Storm Warning will begin Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. and remain in place through 10:00 p.m. Friday in higher elevations, where heavy snowfall may create whiteout conditions.
Deputies advise people traveling in the mountains to expect chain controls and possible road closures on Interstate 80.
Officials say people should continue to use caution, avoid flooded roads, and follow evacuation guidance as conditions change.
