Sparks Police Department has launched a new artificial intelligence system to assist with non-emergency calls in their dispatch center. Called DeskOfficer, the system can answer calls, provide information and fulfill routing requests. It also supports multiple languages.
The department says over 2,000 test calls were made to help ensure the system's accuracy.
The AI assistant was trained on Sparks Police procedures, frequently asked questions, and local resources. The system can also transfer calls to a live dispatcher when needed.
Police Services Manager Connie Shepperd emphasized the benefits, “DeskOfficer helps us manage call surges and reduce hold times for non-emergency requests. It acts as an additional resource for our team, ensuring callers receive timely information while improving overall workflow in the center.”
