MAY 27 UPDATE:
The Susanville Police Department has released video from an incident earlier this month where police shot and killed a suspect who allegedly attacked an officer with a machete.
The video contains body-worn camera footage, audio, and other information related to the shooting, according to a post on Facebook from the SPD.
It has been released to provide the community with additional context regarding what happened.
The incident started around midnight on May 6 with a welfare check call.
A mother was concerned about a man, identified as Derek Sikong, who was with her three children.
She said he was under the influence of meth and was going to hurt the kids.
The police went to Sikong's home along Richmond Road in Susanville. They say he was yelling from his window and grabbed a machete while dangling one of the kids out of the window.
Police repeatedly tried to get him to calm down, but he continued to swing the machete.
Officers then opened fire on Sikong and ran towards the house, where they broke down the door.
Sikong stabbed one of the officers before the other officer shot and killed him.
The officer was treated at the hospital and was released.
The three children were not physically harmed, and the case is still under investigation.
The video can be viewed below. It contains graphic situations and coarse language. Viewer discretion is advised.
