The Reno Rodeo Foundation is bringing its Biggest Little Shootout back for a second year, giving competitors a day of shooting competition while raising money to support children and young adults across northern Nevada.
The 3-gun charity event is set for Saturday, September 12, at Nevada Firearms Academy. Competition begins at 8 a.m. and includes team and individual divisions, along with a .22 LR side shoot.
Participants don't need to bring everything themselves. Registration includes ammunition for standard calibers, access to event-supplied firearms if needed, a safety briefing, and range orientation. Breakfast, a catered barbecue lunch, and non-alcoholic beverages are also included.
Competitors will be competing for titles including Top Team, Top Novice Shooter, Top Expert Shooter and Top .22 LR Side Shoot Shooter. Winners will receive a custom Reno Rodeo Foundation belt buckle and a seat in the Foundation's Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament on October 3.
The event also gives people several ways to take part. Three-person teams cost $900, individual shooter registration is $350, and a shooter and spectator package is $375. The .22 LR side shoot costs $75, while all-access spectator passes are $50.
Money raised through the event supports several Reno Rodeo Foundation programs. Those include providing clothing, hygiene items and other essentials to children in foster care; creating Reading Rooms with books and stuffed animals for children in family court; granting special experiences through Rodeo Wish; and providing scholarships for higher education, trade certifications and career training.
Cheree Boteler, executive director of the Reno Rodeo Foundation, said the first event gave the organization another way to bring people together while supporting its work.
“Last year’s inaugural Biggest Little Shootout gave us a new way to bring people together around a little friendly competition and a cause that really matters,” said Cheree Boteler, executive director of the Reno Rodeo Foundation. “We’re excited to build on that momentum in year two and create another great experience on the range. Every participant, sponsor, and supporter helps us provide programs and resources that give children and young adults experiencing adversity greater comfort, security, and opportunities for independence.”
