All of the 100 free trees offered in August to Sparks residents by the City of Sparks partnered with Moana Nursery were claimed as it kicked off its opening day on Monday, August 12.
The TreeMendous Sparks program is offering up to 300 trees to folks living in Sparks.
The program is making available 100 free trees each month in August, September and October.
Although the first 100 trees were claimed there is a still an opportunity for Sparks residents to claim the up to 200 free trees that are left in the next couple of months.
The City of Sparks will offer the next 100 free trees to Sparks residents on Monday, September 16 at 9 a.m.
Residents may pick up a voucher from the Sparks Parks and Recreation at 98 Richards Way beginning on Monday, August 12. Offices are open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You must show proof of Sparks residency with a valid driver's license and a current utility bill.
After picking up a voucher, residents may redeem them at Moana Nursery at 3397 Pyramid Way. Vouchers must be redeemed by November 21.
Six types of trees will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The trees include Burgundy Belle Maple, Autumn Blaze Maple, Royal Raindrops Flowering Crag, Krauter Vesuvius Plum, Chanticlee Pear and Redspire Pear.
Residents are required to plant their trees.
The program aims to bring environmental and aesthetic benefits to Sparks.
Trees enhance the beauty of neighborhoods, improve air quality, provide shade, attract various wildlife and contribute to the biodiversity of the environment.
