Truckee Police is reminding the community to stay vigilant against imposter scams.
They say scammers can pose as law enforcement, government agencies, banks, utility companies or even someone you trust, all with the goal of taking your money and personal information.
If you get a call and something doesn't feel right, hang up and contact the agency or business directly using a verified phone number.
Truckee Police released the list of red flags to look out for:
- Legitimate government agencies and businesses will never unexpectedly demand payment over the phone, by text, or online.
- Be suspicious of anyone requesting payment through gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
- Never provide personal or financial information unless you have independently verified who you are speaking with.
