Two men have been found guilty of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm after an attack in downtown Reno left an 18-year-old with a fractured jaw.
The case centered on an encounter near Sierra Street and First Street in Reno where Jaden Johnson and Trevor Delapp were with a group of people when they passed the victim and his male friend.
Someone in the group slapped the victim’s friend. The two men stopped to ask why he had been slapped, and the situation quickly escalated. Johnson, Delapp, and two other people began approaching them, and Johnson punched the victim in the face.
The victim tried to run away, but Johnson tackled him. Johnson and Delapp then punched and kicked him in the face. The victim later went to the hospital, where he learned his jaw was fractured.
Reno police found video of the attack during the investigation. The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office showed the video during the trial, and both the victim and his friend testified.
Johnson and Delapp were found guilty of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 14 before Judge Scott Freeman.
