Washoe County Regional Animal Services says they've responded to an alarmingly high number of calls about dogs being left in hot cars this summer.
Shelters are reminding owners to leave their pets safely at home or to make them your first stop before running errands.
They say if your dog can't come inside with you, they don't belong in the car.
If you do see dogs showing signs of distress inside a parked car, advocates ask you to call Animal Services at (775) 322-DOGS.
You can also call 911 if you believe the dog's life is in immediate danger.
