WCSO state fair

With the State Fair of Nevada coming to the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center this week, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office is sharing some safety information.

They're encouraging attendees to plan ahead and keep safety in mind during the event that runs from June 11 through the 13th.

Here are some things the sheriff's office wants you to keep in mind when coming to the fair:

  • Security screenings, including wanding at entry gates, will be conducted for all attendees.
  • A clear bag policy will be enforced.
  • Please leave valuables at home and avoid leaving items visible inside vehicles.
  • Firearms are prohibited.
  • Drones are prohibited.
  • Attendees should still anticipate increased traffic in the area.

Additional safety reminders when taking children to the fair:

  • Keep children close and establish a family meeting location ahead of time.
  • Ensure minors know a parent or guardian’s phone number.
  • Take a current photo of your child before attending large events.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office CERT team will host a children’s wristband booth during the event.

Parents are encouraged to utilize the wristbands in the event a child becomes separated from their group.
