Drone pilots with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office helped in responding to reports of a suspicious car in Sparks on Thursday evening.

Within minutes of the call being received, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Drone as First Responder pilots had the drone airborne and over the reported location, according to a post on Facebook from the WCSO.

Pilots found the reported car and provided information to responding deputies, allowing them to safely locate and contact the involved person and assess the situation.

The Sheriff's Office says this is an example of how emerging technology is helping them respond more quickly, improve situational awareness, and provide deputies with real-time information as they respond to incidents.

"These tools improve response times, enhance situational awareness, and give our deputies the critical information they need to make informed decisions that help keep both our residents and our deputies safe," said Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam.

Deputies continue to follow up on the incident.
