The Washoe County School District (WCSD) has received approval from the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) for emergency school closure days and to use the planned contingency days that were built into the school calendar.
The exception is TMCC High School, where students and staff must attend school on May 27 and 28, 2027. Other than TMCC HS, the last day of school for students remains unchanged.
“We are grateful to the Nevada Department of Education for its partnership and for providing clarity for our students, families and staff as we move forward with the school year,” said WCSD Superintendent Tiffany McMaster. “These fires created significant challenges for our school communities, and we recognize that some of our families and staff continue to feel their impacts. I am incredibly thankful for the patience, flexibility and support our community has shown, and especially for everyone who worked to keep our students, staff and schools safe.”
“At the Nevada Department of Education, we recognize the significant disruption and challenges that wildfires created for Washoe County schools and families,” said Dr. Victor Wakefield, Superintendent of Public Instruction. “We are thankful for the collaboration with the Washoe County School District and applaud their thoughtful calendar planning to be prepared for school closures. We stand in support of the district as it navigates the remainder of the school year.”
Due to the school closures, the following Professional Development Days have been added for school staff: June 7 and 8, 2027, for Balanced Calendar staff, and June 11, 2027, for all Incline School staff.
Please note: There are no changes to the Gerlach school calendar.
