A Winnemucca father is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of his infant son.
Police say 34-year-old Mathew Lee Eaton took his unresponsive son to Humboldt General Hospital in April 2025. They say when medical personnel could not resuscitate the child, he was then transferred to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for additional medical care.
Despite efforts, the child died about two weeks later.
During their investigation, detectives identified Eaton as a suspect, leading to his arrest, announced on Thursday.
Eaton is being held in the Humboldt County Detention Center without bail where he faces charges of one count of Open Murder, one count of Murder in the First Degree, and one count of Child Abuse with Substantial Bodily Harm.
