Families looking for a holiday outing will find plenty to do tomorrow when Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care hosts its Wild Winter Festival in South Lake Tahoe.

The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, invites people to celebrate the season while supporting care for injured and orphaned wildlife.

The festival features hands-on craft stations, winter-themed games, and carnival-style tabletop challenges suitable for all ages.

Children can meet Santa during Reading With Santa as guests enjoy seasonal drinks and browse fresh holiday greenery.

Food will be available from Sombreros, which plans to donate 15 percent of all sales to help support LTWC programs.

Visitors can join several playful competitions, including an egg nog chug, a candy cane relay race, a penguin waddle, and a marshmallow tower challenge.

Throughout the day, LTWC’s animal care team will hold Wildlife Talks that give guests a look at the rehabilitation work their support helps make possible.

"We can’t wait to welcome everyone to our first Wild Winter Festival," said Catherine Mendez, Executive Director of LTWC. "It’s a fun way to come together as a community, enjoy the holiday season, and learn simple ways to live alongside the wildlife that shares our home. Every activity and game helps us protect the local animals who make Lake Tahoe so special."

Parking at the LTWC site is limited, so guests are encouraged to use the free shuttle from the South Lake Tahoe Community Playfields East Side Parking Lot at 1300 Al Tahoe Blvd.

The ride takes about a minute, and drop-offs at LTWC are allowed.

Pets are not permitted due to the recovering wildlife on site, although service dogs are welcome.

Most activities are free, and select items and experiences are available for purchase to support LTWC programs. Guests are advised to dress warmly since many activities take place outdoors.
