The Nevada Highway Patrol has released the identity of a woman who died in a two-car crash on U.S. 50 between Rio Vista Drive and Crook Road in Fallon.

Nevada Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 6:22 a.m. on Thursday.

NHP says a preliminary investigation indicates that a green Chevrolet Monte Carlo was heading west on U.S. 50 when it went into the opposite lane and crashed into a white Ford Flex.

NHP says the driver of the Monte Carlo, identified as 66-year-old Cindy Downs-Furlong of Fallon, died on scene.

The SUV driver, a woman who was not identified in a release from the Nevada Highway Patrol, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash.

NHP notes in their release that preliminary investigation shows Downs-Furlong was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Nevada Highway Patrol Major Incident Reconstruction Team is investigating the crash.
