Tuesday, March 12th marks two years since the disappearance of Naomi Irion.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office marked the anniversary with a tribute on Facebook.
"Although Naomi was taken from this world, she has not been forgotten. Our hearts and prayers at the Lyon County Sheriff's Office still go out to Naomi's family and friends," said the post in part.
Irion was waiting in her car for a shuttle to take her to work at Panasonic on March 12, 2022 when a suspect, alleged to be Troy Driver, walked up, got in her car, and drove off.
Irion's body was found on March 29, 2022 and identified by authorities the next day.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office said she had been shot in the head and chest.
Remembering Irion, her mother said, "She spoke several languages, she played multiple instruments and she was an incredible artist."
"Naomi was so compassionate, and so empathetic, and she had such a big heart and it's really sad that there will be one less person like that in the world," said Casey Valley, Naomi's brother.
"This world would've been a better place with her in it," said her mother.
Troy Driver pleaded not guilty to Naomi Irion's kidnapping and murder, and his legal team tried to have the charges against him dismissed on grounds of jurisdiction.
In August of 2022, Driver placed a suicide note and confession in a deck of playing cards that was hand-delivered to his ex-girlfriend by an inmate who was released from custody.
The woman turned the information over to law enforcement.Â
The sheriff said the cards contained notes such as, "There's always been a terrible darkness inside of me" and "Guilt is crushing..."
It also contained information that said Driver would kill himself rather than pain his family members with his alleged crimes.Â
After the note was given to law enforcement, the Sheriff said Driver was placed on suicide watch and received a mental health evaluation, but Driver was released from suicide watch after that evaluation and returned to his jail cell.
He would attempt suicide for the first time that same month, then again in March of last year.
On August 6th of last year, he took his own life by self-asphyxiation.
