A man convicted of felony domestic battery faces up to 15 years in prison when he's scheduled to be sentenced in June.
The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says this is the second time 49-year-old Scott Kanvick has been convicted of Felony Domestic Battery. They also say he has two misdemeanor convictions for violating two different Emergency Protective Orders, in 2015 and 2016.
Prosecutor say the case started in December 2023 when a Reno Police officer found the 51-year-old victim suffering from several facial injuries, including bruising and swelling around her eyes, her ear, and across her nose.
The victim told police she had been in a romantic relationship with Kanvick and that the night before, he had picked her up from work in his truck. The DA's office says the woman said than Kanvick was angry with her because he believed she was seeing someone else, and that while driving, he grabbed the lanyard from around her neck and pulled her toward him. At that point, prosecutors say Kanvick punched the woman in the face multiple times. The victim tries to escape several times, but Kanvick wouldn’t allow her to leave, holding on her lanyard and then her hair.
Eventually, the woman escaped from the truck in a Reno neighborhood and hid in the bushes.
