Three people were rescued from the Sierra Buttes on Sunday afternoon after a satellite distress signal alerted authorities.
The Sierra County Sheriff's Office received notification from the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services around 2:30 p.m. about an SOS activation from a Garmin satellite communication device.
The Sheriff's Office launched a search and rescue operation and requested help from the Nevada County Sheriff's Search & Rescue Mountain Rescue Team and the Washoe County Sheriff's Office RAVEN helicopter.
The RAVEN crew found the three people on steep terrain south of the Sierra Buttes lookout tower.
Because of the location, rescuers used a helicopter hoist operation. They were then flown to an area where emergency crews were waiting.
Authorities did not provide additional details about the three individuals or what led to them becoming stranded.
