Original Story, March 22, 2024:
After jumping bail and fleeing to Mexico, where he stayed for three years, a man has been arrested and convicted on four counts of sexual assault against a child under 14 in Washoe County.
A jury convicted 40-year-old William Guerra after a 15-year-old girl told a social worker that she had been sexually molested by him multiple times when she was between nine and 13 years old.
After being arrested by Reno Police, Guerra admitted to assaulting the victim and said the assaults stopped when she pulled a knife on him, according to a release from the Washoe County District Attorney's Office.
After his arrest Guerra posted bail and fled to Mexico, the D.A.'s office said. The victim's family followed, living down the street from him for three years before he tried to re-enter the United States illegally, resulting in his arrest.
Following Guerra's re-arrest investigators with the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office found and contacted the victim, now an adult, in Mexico.
The victim was brought back to Reno to be present for the trial of Guerra.
