While some school districts, like the Washoe County School District, started their first day of school last week, some are starting today.
Both students and teachers expressed how excited they were for the start of school.
The Carson City, Douglas County, Storey County and Washoe County School Districts Incline Village and kindergarten students all started today.
Briana Miranda, a student starting the 5th Grade says "I'm happy and excited that I get to see all my friends and I can have fun."
Leighann Carper, another student starting the 3rd Grade adds "I'm looking forward to seeing my old teacher from last year."
Miranda goes on to say "My favorite subject is math because math is really fun and you get to learn things about it like division or multiplying."
The students told us how excited they were for the new school year including seeing their friends, meeting new teachers and seeing old teachers, and continuing to learn their favorite subjects in school.
Even Carson High will be seeing some different things this year as they implement new phone pouches for the school day.
Andrew Feuling, the Superintendent for the Carson City School District, told us happily, “Who needs coffee - when you have 600 elementary aged kids, you don’t need coffee. That level of energy can power a small metropolitan area for a year, this is a great start to the year and it’s going to be a great year.”
He goes on to say, "We are looking forward to another great year here in the Carson City School District. Kids are back, electricity is in the air. I think some kids, their smiles are so big they’ll never be able to come off. It’s a great start to the year; families are really excited."
He adds "Lots of smiles, lots of smiles and lots of smiles. The running around, the running to hug, seeing their old teachers, seeing their friends, talking about what's happening, what they know is going to be happening, who’s going to be in their classes. Everyone is looking forward to what is coming next and getting that first day of school started is going to be a big bang.”
