After 16 years, the official State Fair of Nevada is returning to the region, kicking off tomorrow. Not to be confused with the Nevada State Fair, which is also starting tomorrow.
That event is held in Carson City and is not recognized as Nevada's official state fair, though it has been operating since 2013. The State Fair of Nevada is legally the official state fair and is happening at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center.
Last year during the legislative session AB 333 returned the Nevada State Fairgrounds back to the Nevada Department of Agriculture. They're the only agency that can legally hold the event.
Ciara Ressel, Public Information Officer for the Nevada Department of Agriculture said, "This is something that the community has really had missing for the last 16 years, and we're excited to bring it back... We really want this event to be accessible for everyone."
The similarly named events have been causing confusion for the public, and frustration for organizers. In a statement from the Nevada State Fair, they say in part, "The organization remains concerned that these state-supported efforts risk undermining more than a decade of private investment, planning, brand development, and community-building efforts undertaken to preserve and grow the Nevada State Fair tradition."Â
