Tax returns show California's Newsom earning between $1.7 million and $2 million annually

California Gov. Gavin Newsom's office has released tax returns showing he and his wife made between $1.7 million and $2 million annually from 2022 through 2024. The couple paid about half a million a year in federal and state taxes during that time. They sold a house for nearly $6 million in Marin County in 2021. Their income increased from previous years as a result of the sale to $4.2 million. The release comes as the couple’s finances have been under scrutiny after President Donald Trump’s Justice Department launched investigations into the Newsoms. It also comes as the Democratic governor weighs a run for president in 2028.

President Donald Trump is making a rare visit to California and Nevada to try to draw contrasts with Democrats on the economy and other issues. Trump wants to shore up support for Republicans in November elections that will determine whether his party keeps control of Congress. Trump is attending a Republican National Committee dinner at his golf club near Los Angeles on Tuesday. Before Trump's arrival, authorities revealed that a California man who was carrying ammunition and had a gun in his car had been arrested Sunday at the golf course. On Wednesday, Trump is slated to talk about the economy at a Las Vegas casino hotel.
