President Donald Trump's involvement in this year's midterm elections has moved from rhetoric to reality. The president directed his administration to intervene on behalf of his preferred candidate in Alaska's Senate race, suing to halt the certification before voters have even finished casting ballots. Trump for years has promoted to his supporters that elections he or his party might lose are stolen, and this time is no exception. But the certification lawsuit in Alaska elevates Trump’s crusade beyond mere rhetoric. He is now using the power of the presidency to act during the midterms in which his party is struggling to hold its control of Congress.
