Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico were making closing arguments Saturday in a tossup Texas U.S. Senate race that has become a key measure of voters’ frustration with Trump’s leadership and his loyalists in the Republican Party. Meanwhile in Michigan, Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed sought to shut down talk of the intraparty conflict with his primary opponent, Rep. Haley Stevens, calling it a distraction from issues that voters care about. The race between El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers is another of this year’s most competitive contests, heightening Democratic fears. President Donald Trump took a break from daily rallies to talk to voters via telephone. He also attended a Halloween party at his Florida estate.
