The National Hurricane Center posted a tropical storm warning on Monday for the Gulf of Mexico coast near the Texas-Louisiana state line. Forecasters expect a potential tropical cyclone will strengthen into a named storm by Monday night as it swirls south of Morgan City, Louisiana. In the Pacific Ocean, Tropical Storm Lowell was expected to become a hurricane by Monday night and reach the vicinity of the Hawaiian Islands later this week. And elsewhere in the Pacific, Hurricane Karina strengthened Monday into a powerful Category 4 hurricane, but isn’t threatening land. Forcasters expect Karina to grow stronger and send some waves to parts of California and Mexico.
