A federal judge has ruled that Maurene Comey, the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, was illegally fired as a federal prosecutor in New York last year. Judge Jesse M. Furman said in a written opinion Monday that Comey was improperly fired in July 2025. He noted that she had worked on some of the nation's highest-profile cases and consistently received stellar reviews. Furman rejected the government’s claim that Comey could be fired because federal prosecutors exercise the president’s “conclusive and preclusive” powers. The Justice Department said in a statement that it disagrees with the ruling and will appeal.
