NAME: Denise Myer
AGE: 71
PARTY AFFILIATION:
DAY JOB: Retired Safety Manager
EDUCATION:
BS in Environmental Economics, UNR
MS Safety & Health Management, Columbia Southern
HOW LONG YOU HAVE LIVED IN NEVADA: 62 years
WRITE A BRIEF (TWO TO THREE SENTENCES) SUMMARY OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD ENABLE YOU TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THIS OFFICE:
I have a BS in Environmental Economics, and MS in Safety and Health management and have been in several management positions. My degrees have trained me in data analysis and digging down deep into issues. I also have a strong background in customer service.
WHAT IS YOUR TOP PRIORITY IF ELECTED?
One of my top priorities is to establish open communication with citizens of Reno. Most people don't know their voices can be heard through the Neighborhood Advisory Board. I want to have full transparency in the position.
IN JUST A FEW SENTENCES: WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM FACING RENO, AND HOW WOULD YOU FIX IT?
The many people that are homeless is a major problem facing Reno at this time. There is no magic solution, but it needs to be seriously addressed. I would start by doing a type of triage to categorize those that truly need help, those who don't want help, or those who are trying to improve their situation but can't afford to pay the prices for an apartment. It is only a start, and won't be remedied overnight, but I will be willing to listen to different perspectives on this issue.
WHAT’S YOUR PLAN TO HELP EASE THE HOUSING CRUNCH IN RENO?
Our housing problem is not an easy one to fix. There are many different aspects to this issue. I believe the resolution must include all stakeholders, including developers, landlords, and city council.
IN ONE SENTENCE: WHAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING VOTERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I am someone who wants to hear different perspectives on issues before I make a decision. I stand by my principles and won't be swayed by special interest.
YES OR NO: WILL YOU ACCEPT THE RESULTS OF THIS ELECTION, WHETHER YOU WIN OR LOSE?
