FRANK PEREZ
NAME: Frank Perez
AGE: 32
PARTY AFFILIATION: Democrat
DAY JOB: City Compliance Officer
EDUCATION: Graduate of Western Nevada College and the University of Nevada, Reno with a bachelor’s degree in political science
HOW LONG YOU HAVE LIVED IN NEVADA: 32 Years
WRITE A BRIEF (TWO TO THREE SENTENCES) SUMMARY OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD ENABLE YOU TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THIS OFFICE:
I've worked at the City for 7 years, first in Housing and Neighborhood Development and the past five years in Code Compliance. Previously, I served as staff for two legislative sessions for the Chairman of Assembly Government Affairs. I've chaired the Washoe County Library System Board of Trustees and the Washoe County School District School Naming Committee and have served as Vice President for the Community Health Alliance Board of Directors, among other boards.
WHAT IS YOUR TOP PRIORITY IF ELECTED?
I’m going to be focused on improving our neighborhoods for families, young people and seniors.
IN JUST A FEW SENTENCES: WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM FACING RENO, AND HOW WOULD YOU FIX IT?
The biggest problem facing my ward, which includes Downtown Reno, the University neighborhoods, and Northeast Reno, is liveability. There needs to be more housing that all different people need and can afford. We need to address blight and public safety everywhere, and focus on a multi-use downtown where people can afford to live and small businesses can thrive. As someone who has worked in both neighborhood revitalization and code compliance, there’s a lot we can do with existing tools and budgets to make this a cleaner, safer, more family-friendly city.
WHAT’S YOUR PLAN TO HELP EASE THE HOUSING CRUNCH IN RENO?
This is an issue that affects everyone, from young professionals to our senior citizens, people are feeling the crunch. I will work with partners to increase diverse housing types, especially in downtown. I want to see more opportunities for young families to buy and I want to see affordable housing options for our senior community. The city should prioritize and assist where possible in projects that build housing that working people can afford.
IN ONE SENTENCE: WHAT’S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING VOTERS SHOULD KNOW ABOUT YOU?
My name is Frank Perez, and I’m the only candidate in the race who is focused on improving neighborhoods for families, working people, and seniors, I am the only candidate to be supported by Democratic leaders like Assemblywoman Angie Taylor and Commissioner Mariluz Garcia, and unions like Laborers Local 169.
YES OR NO: WILL YOU ACCEPT THE RESULTS OF THIS ELECTION, WHETHER YOU WIN OR LOSE?
